Laser Hair Removal

How does laser remove hair?

It kills the unwanted hair by targeting the melanin in the hair follicles, which then destroys the hair follicle and prevents further growth. Laser hair removal and light systems gently put an end to shaving and waxing. These treatments leave the skin feeling smoother and silkier.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the area which you wish to be treated. Many factors influence the growth of hair such as: age, ethnicity, medication and metabolism plays a part in your hair's thickness and growth.

Tattoo Removal

Today, cosmetic medical lasers designed to eradicate tattoos range from a single wavelength of light to a broad spectrum of light, the varieties of which are intended to obliterate the ink in the tattoo without damaging the skin. Certain colors of light are absorbed by specific corresponding colors of the tattoo ink. The light energy vaporizes or fragments the ink particles. Your body then absorbs these ink fragments naturally and the color fades over the next couple of weeks. This treatment is very similar to methods used for years to treat birthmarks.

What are other removal options?

Laser tattoo removal is the safest, quickest tattoo removal option, most likely to leave your skin intact following treatment. Other treatment options are surgical excision, chemical peel and traditional dermabrasion. These various treatment options are invasive treatment methods and often result in scarring with poor cosmetic outcomes.

What are treatments like?

First, the tattoo is cleansed and photographed. Emitting laser or pulsed light, the laser hand device glides over the surface of the tattoo. The size and color of the tattoo determine the length of treatment time. A tattoo roughly the size of a quarter may take approximately 3-5 minutes to treat. A subcutaneous injection of Lidocaine with or without Epinephrine may be used to numb the area prior to treatment so that there is no discomfort during the procedure. Following the laser treatment, a Vigilon™ dressing is applied to the area to keep it clean and protected to promote healing.

How many treatments are required?

Size, color, location and the age of the tattoo determine the number of treatments necessary to effectively complete removal. During the consultation, your treatment regimen will be reviewed and any questions you have will be answered. Be sure to contact your physician if you experience side effects not described during your consultation.

What results can I expect?

The results and appearance of the tattoo vary from patient to patient. After each treatment session you will see the tattoo become lighter. Due to the various levels of professionalism and types of inks used in tattooing, the results and the number of treatments may vary. Typically, multiple treatments will be required and are scheduled 6 weeks apart.

Hair Transplantation

Do you have well-defined baldness, thinning hair, or limited hair loss due to scalp injury, burns or other scarring process? Then perhaps hair transplantation is a good option for you.

Dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons perform hair restoration surgery to correct hair loss and re-create a natural-looking hairline.

What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplant surgery involves removing hair from healthy donor sites. The hair is then "transplanted", or placed, in a balding, recipient site where it will take root and grow normally. Hair transplantation involves the following steps:

  • Removing small strips of hair-bearing scalp from the back and sides of the head, known as the "donor site", which contains hair that will grow throughout a lifetime;
  • Repairing the donor site, usually resulting in a very narrow, inconspicuous scar that is hidden by overlying hair;
  • Dividing the hair from the donor strips into small grafts, and placing them into the balding areas.

The resulting amount of improved hair density in the recipient site varies. This will depend on the original extent of baldness and the total number of grafts transplanted. Within the first month, much of the transplanted hair will shed, but the transplanted root remains in place. Then two months later, hair starts to grow at a normal rate. After six months, the transplanted hairs begin to take on a natural, fuller appearance.
